Abstract:

The server developed for user authentication utilizes a system that recognizes individuals through traditional text-based identification methods, primarily usernames and passwords. This system is designed with security in mind, aiming to protect users while they access various services. However, despite these efforts, there have been numerous incidents involving the unauthorized disclosure of personal information, as well as hacking events affecting major online platforms and financial institutions. Such incidents have led to the unfortunate compromise of a vast number of user IDs and passwords. In addition, while graphical passwords were introduced as a method to enhance security beyond text-based passwords, they often fail to provide the necessary level of protection. Research has increasingly shown that text-based passwords are vulnerable to various attacks, making them less reliable as secret authentication methods. In response to these challenges, this paper presents an innovative authentication mechanism that allows users to select an image from their smartphone's photo album. This approach incorporates the unique values derived from the pixel matrix of the chosen image, aiming to offer a more secure and user-friendly alternative to conventional password systems. By leveraging the distinct properties of images, this method seeks to mitigate the risks associated with traditional text-based authentication, ultimately enhancing user privacy and security.
