Abstract:

The time headway of vehicles is an important microscopic traffic flow parameter that affects the capacity of highway facilities. This study presents the time headway study on an urban arterial road using the video recording data for a major corridor in the city of Amman, the capital of Jordan. The headway distribution model was developed using the normal distribution and the result can be used as an input in practical applications, especially for traffic parameters estimation at the same conditions road. Further development is important for estimating capacity and level of service (LOS) as the existing practice offer inappropriate estimations.
