Abstract:

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), an element of pervasive computing, is currently used on a large scale and in a number of different applications including military, environment monitoring, smart spaces etc. When designing or deploying a WSN for any application, Sensors are susceptible to various types of data intrusion, such as data modification, insertion and deletion, or even physical capture and sensor replacement. Hence security is one of the most important aspects that need careful attention. Traditional cryptographic algorithms are not very well suited for WSN given its resource constrained nature. Hence watermarking technique is being investigated as an alternative security technology in WSNs because of its light resource requirements. This paper proposes a watermarking technique for detecting the data intrusion of WSNs We provide a performance evaluation of the technique to show its robustness against various types of data intrusion like data deletion, packet replication and Sybil attacks.
