Abstract:

This research aims to study the effectiveness of distance electronic learning (e-learning) in developing achievement motivation for children within the Coronavirus pandemic through examining the relationship between the effectiveness of distance e-learning and the development of children's achievement motivation, while identifying the differences in the effectiveness of e-learning from the perspective of the research sample’s mothers, and the children’s achievement motivation according to the difference of the study variables. The study included 387 children (boys and girls) from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, aged 6 to 10 years. A general information form, a distance e-learning effectiveness questionnaire, and a questionnaire measuring children's achievement motivation were all developed. The study’s findings showed a positive correlation between the efficacy of distance e-learning from the perspective of the study sample’s mothers and achievement motivation for children in all aspects (bearing responsibility - mastery - perception of the value of time - experience) within the Corona pandemic at a significance level of 0.001. It also revealed that there are statistically significant differences in the efficacy of e-learning from the perspective of the study sample’s mothers, depending on the distinction (sex of the child – mother’s job - type of school - grade - level of mother’s education), in favor of male children, working mothers, government schools, the higher grade, and the higher education level of the mothers, where the values of “t” and “F” values were statistically significant at a level of significance (0.001 and 0.01 respectively). However, there was no statistically significant difference in satisfaction with the efficacy of e-learning from the perspective of the mothers of the study sample based on the father's educational level, as the “F” value was not statistically significant. Moreover, the results revealed that there are statistically significant differences in the achievement motivation for children according to some study variables (gender of the child –school type - grade - level of mother’s education), in favor of male children, government schools, the higher grade, and the higher education level of the mothers, where the values of “t” and “F” values were statistically significant at a level of significance (0.001 and 0.01 respectively). On the other hand, there were no statistically significant differences in the child’s motivation for achievement between the working and non-working mother and the father’s education level, where the value of “t” was not statistically significant. The study recommended that the Ministry of Education step up its efforts to educate parents about the importance of distance e-learning in the face of emergency crises like the Corona pandemic and the adoption of modern technological means as an interesting educational system, especially in the early stages of education.
