Abstract:

So many technologies are presently gaining ground and finding application in the educational system. This is because the educational system which is the foundation of a society’s cultural survival and sustenance needs to adapt to the everyday demands of the society it serves if it must remain relevant. It must accommodate new innovations that are brought into it as a result of the ever changing needs of the society. Cloud computing is one of the technologies that has found its way into the educational system, with a very promising future for the system. It is, therefore, pertinent that cloud computing is properly defined especially with respect to its role(usefulness) in education. This, it is hoped, will lead to its wider acceptance and sustenance within the system. Thus, this work examined the role of cloud computing in education, specifically in mathematics education research. This was achieved by examining the very nature and characteristics of both cloud computing and mathematics education and then establishing a connection between both in terms of the practical use of cloud computing in mathematics education and it implication for mathematics education curriculum.
